CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Blake Peiffer had nine tackles and a sack, and Steve Hendry had three sacks to lead the Southeast Missouri defense to a 41-20 win over the offense in the Redhawks spring game Saturday afternoon at Houck Stadium.

Southeast's defense, which recorded seven sacks on the day, also forced two turnovers. Derek Walker returned an interception 28 yards and Tamaris Surdock recovered a fumble to account for the takeaways.

Offensively, Renard Celestin rushed for 65 yards on 13 carries, while Matt Scheible gained 43 yards on three attempts. Scheible had a 31-yard run, as well.

Backup quarterback Derek Gibson completed 8-of-10 passes for 84 yards and one touchdown. Scheible completed two passes, one of which was a 13-yard touchdown.

D.J. Foster, Celestin and Aaron King led the way with three receptions apiece. King and Foster each had three catches for 32 yards and a touchdown.

Southeast, which ended its spring drills, kicks off its 2011 season at home against Southern Illinois on Sept. 3.
