Tony Samuel Hires New Offensive Line Coach
June 29, 2006 Cape Girardeau, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State University football coach Tony Samuel has hired former Nebraska lineman Brian Boerboom as the Redhawks new offensive line coach. Coach Samuel was an assistant when Boerboom played at Nebraska from 1987 to 1992, winning first team all-Big 12 honors in 1991. He played in the Fiesta Bowl, Orange Bowl and Citrus Bowl during his playing days at Nebraska. Most recently the head football coach at Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake, Va., Boerboom is a former assistant coach at Greenville College and Colorado College as well as several high schools in Colorado. "I am real glad we were able to get Coach Boerboom at this time," Samuel said. "I've had my eye on him for quite a while. He was on my list to be the next offensive line coach when I was at New Mexico State and now I am able to land him on my first staff at Southeast Missouri. "Coach Boerboom has a familiarity with the system we are putting in and he has good experience in both high school and collegiate coaching. I like the fact he was also offensive coordinator at Greenville College in addition to being offensive line coach." Boerboom, who joined the Southeast staff on Monday, indicates he is happy to be back in college coaching with Samuel. "I am very excited to be with Coach Samuel and a great staff he has assembled," Boerboom said. "We have a bunch of hard working coaches who are ready to help this team achieve success." Boerboom replaces Mike Chavez who resigned last month in order to take a job in law enforcement in South Dakota. |
