CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. (Thursday, August 11, 2005)The Redhawks football team went through a afternoon practice today as it continued preparations for its 2005 season opener set for Thursday, Sept. 1 against No. 5 Southern Illinois.
The team practiced in full pads in 99-degree heat on the newly repainted Field Turf of Houck Stadium. Here are just a few of the highlights observed...
11-on-11 Team Period
- SS Mike Miller put a hard hit on Elton Peterson on 1st and Goal that forced a fumble that was recovered by FS Mark Dunaway at the three yard line.
- CB Gerald Breedlove sacking QB Mike Haley on a corner blitz.
- RB Austen Collins taking a screen-pass from Mike Haley and breaking four tackles enroute to a 27-yard catch and run TD.
- The 2nd team defense pushing the 2nd team offense back to a third and long situation thanks to back-to-back sacks.
- DE Jeff Martin recovers a fumble and rumbled down the sideline with a defensive entourage for a 68-yard touchdown to end the practice
