CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The football team at Southeast Missouri State University has elected four captains for the 2007 season.
Three seniors and a fourth year junior will lead the Redhawks. Adam Casper, a preseason all-OVC selection at linebacker, will represent the Southeast defensive unit while fullback Clint Jones, offensive tackle Francisco Perez and wide receiver Michael Williamson will lead the offense. Casper, Jones and Perez were all starters last season while Williamson, a redshirt junior, saw playing time at wide receiver and on special teams.
"We have our players vote on the captains," Southeast head coach Tony Samuel said. "The players know who the team leaders are. I am pleased with their selections. All four of the captains are hard workers who are mature and knowledgeable."
The Redhawks will open the 2007 season on August 30 at Cincinnati in a game that will be produced by ESPN and will be available on ESPN360.
"I'm pleased with the progress we've made during our fall camp," Samuel said. "We will have our final full scale scrimmage on Saturday at Houck Stadium and then we will begin preparations for a very good Cincinnati team."
Cincinnati, a member of the Big East Conference, was 8-5 last season and won the International Bowl.
Saturday's game type scrimmage will begin at 8 p.m.
