Football Will Scrimmage on Saturday

Aug. 18, 2006

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - The Southast Missouri State University football team will hold a scrimmage on Saturday, 6 p.m., at Houck Stadium. The Redhawks, who begin classes on Monday, are preparing for the season opener at Austin Peay on Sept. 2.

"We will be looking for hard play and improved execution," said Southeast head coach Tony Samuel who is in his first season with the Redhawks. "It is time to start adding some polish. Our guys have been practicing hard and that has to continue, but we have to start executing better.

"I thought we had a real good practice on Friday morning. It was hot and humid, but our players really got after it."

The Redhawks will have one final scrimmage on Saturday, August 26, 6 p.m., when they will create game type conditions.

The season opener at Austin Peay will have a 6 p.m. kickoff on Saturday, Sept. 2. The home opener at Houck Stadium will be on Sept. 9 against the Missouri-Rolla Miners. The Miners open their season on August 26 at Tiffin University in Ohio.
