Football Opens Season at Austin Peay

Sept. 1, 2006

Clarksville, Tenn. - The Southeast Missouri State University football team will open the season on Saturday at Austin Peay and for the first time ever, there will be live video streaming.

The Redhawks and Governors will kickoff at 6 p.m. at Governors Stadium and Southeast fans will be able to watch the game on the internet through the Ohio Valley Conference's new premium web site, OVCSports.TV. The subscription service is available on an annual, seasonal and per-event basis. Just go to www.ovcsports.com for more information.

The season opener will be the first under new head coach Tony Samuel a former assistant at Purdue, Nebraska and Stanford who served for eight seasons as head coach at I-A New Mexico State.

"The opener will tell us a lot about our football team," Samuel said. "We had a good preseason camp and the guys are excited. We just have to see how they perform in games."

It will be the first meeting between the Govs and Redhawks since 1997 when Southeast won 31-0 at Clarksville. The Redhawks lead the series 6-4 and have won five straight.

Southeast will open the home season on Saturday, Sept. 9, hosting Missouri-Rolla in a 6 p.m. game at Houck Stadium.
