THE TEAMS: Southeast Missouri is 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the OVC. The Redhawks have a win over Southwest Baptist and losses to Missouri and Tennessee Tech. Missouri State is 0-2 with losses to Washburn and Oklahoma State.

THE COACHES: Tony Samuel is 8-17 in his third season at Southeast. He is 42-74 in 11 years as a head coach including eight seasons at New Mexico State. Terry Allen is 8-16 in his third season at Missouri State and is 103-75 in his 16th season as a collegiate head coach.

THE SERIES: Missouri State leads the series 45-28 and has won 13 of the last 14 games including the last six in a row. The last Southeat win was in 1999.

ABOUT MISSOURI STATE: The Bears, 6-5 last season, hoped to build on that season but are off to an 0-2 start with an upset loss to Division II Washburn and a loss to Oklahoma State of the Big 12 Conference.

LAST SEASON: Missouri State dominated in a 55-17 win in Springfield.

HARRIS HONORED BY OVC: Sophomore running back Henry Harris, a transfer from the University of Memphis, was chosen as the co-OVC Newcomer of the Week after rushing 14 times for 70 yards against Tennessee Tech. He also returned a kickoff 22 yards and had a reception to account for 96 all-purpose yards on the night.

SOUTHEAST IN THE NATIONAL STATS: Southeast leads the nation (FCS) in net punting with 42.47 yards per game. The Redhawks are 14th nationally and tops in the OVC in passing offense with 274.67 yards per game.

SPADA LEADS NATION IN PUNTING: Redhawks junior punter Doug Spada is the national leader in punting with an average of 49.87 yards per punt. He is also tied for fifth nationally in field goals per game with 1.67. Spada, who was an honorable mention All-American and first team all-OVC selection last season when he averaged 42.5 yards per punt while converting 14-23 field goals and 21-23 PAT's. As a prep player in Shelby, North Carolina, he was MVP of the soccer team and trained for soccer in England with the prestigious Chelsea Football Club.

CALVIN TIED FOR FIRST NATIONALLY IN INTERCEPTIONS: Junior corner Eddie Calvin is tied for first nationally in interceptions with one per game. He had three first half interceptions in the Southwest Baptist game.

STAUFFER NINTH NATIONALLY IN TACKLES: Senior linebacker Nick Stauffer is ninth nationally in tackles with 12.33 per game. He had a career high 16 tackles in the SW Baptist game and had 13 tackles in the Tennessee Tech game.

CAPTAINS: The football team has elected five captains for the 2008 season. Quarterback Houston Lillard and wide receiver Mike Williamson will captain the offensive unit while the defensive captains will be linebacker Nick Stauffer, tackle Nick Ketelsleger and cornerback Kendall Magana.

INJURIES: Backup linebacker Patrick Maloney (foot), offensive lineman Matt James (leg), center Paul McGuire (ankle) and defensive back Kris Cottner (knee) all missed the Tennessee Tech game with injuries. McGuire is probable this week while James, Maloney and Cottner are doubtful.

HOLLOMAN OUT: Pre-season all-OVC running back Timmy Holloman remains suspended and will not play again until the Jacksonville State game on Oct. 4.

REDHAWKS IN THE NFL: Four former Redhawks players are on NFL rosters going into the first game of the season. Eugene Amano is an offensive lineman with the Tennessee Titans , Dan Connolly is an offensive lineman with New England Patriots and Dimitri Patterson is a defensive back for Kansas City while Edgar Jones is a tight end on the practice squad at Baltimore.

NEBRASKA CONNECTION: Eight Southeast coaches have ties to Nebraska. New outside linebackers coach Troy Dumas was an All-American linebacker for the Huskers, wide receivers coach Lorenzo Brinkley, defensive backs coach Kenny Wilhite, defensive coordinator Tim McGuire and offensive line coach Brian Boerboom all played for the Huskers. Running backs coach Chris Norris played under Tom Osborne when Samuel was an assistant in Lincoln and the father of offensive tackles/tight ends coach Justin Kramer had Samuel as a position coach.

REDHAWKS AGAIN HAVE ST. LOUIS RADIO STATION: The Southeast Missouri Football Radio Network will again include 1380 ESPN Radio in St. Louis. The network, operated by Mississippi River Radio will be anchored by 100,000-watt K-103 FM in Cape Girardeau. Other network stations include KSIM, Sikeston; KWOC, Poplar Bluff and KMAL, Malden. Erik Sean will be the play-by-play voice of Redhawks football with former quarterback Rick Wieser adding commentary for home games and Ron Hines, Sports Information Director, handling commentary on road games. Todd Bonacki will be a sideline reporter for home games.

REDHAWKS FOOTBALL WITH Tony Samuel: Samuel will have a weekly 30-minute television show on The Heartland's CW, WQWQ-TV. The show will air at 11:05 p.m. on Mondays and will be hosted by KFVS-TV sports director Todd Richards. The show will also be shown on Charter Cable Channel 11 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday's at 8 p.m. It will also be run on the KFVS-TV/Southeast Weather Channel (Charter Channel 113) on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights at 6:30 p.m.

OVC SPORTS.TV: Southeast football games will also be video streamed on the Ohio Valley Conference's premium website, OVCSports.tv which can be accessed by logging on to the league's official website, OVCSports.com. Subscriptions are available on an annual, seasonal and per event basis.

NEXT WEEK: The Redhawks will play another Missouri Valley Football Conference opponent, going against Indiana State in Terre Haute, Ind. Game time will be 11 a.m. central time.
