Farmer Named OVC Newcomer of the Week True freshman linebacker records 19 tackles against Tennessee Tech.
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. (October 9, 2000) - Southeast Missouri State linebacker Ricky Farmer was named the Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week after his performance against Tennessee Tech on October 7. Farmer, a true freshman, recorded 19 tackles against the Golden Eagles. Although originally slated to be redshirted this season, numerous injuries in the Indians defense pushed Farmer into duty a season earlier than expected. Farmer, a native of Fort Myers, Fla., attended Bishop Verot High School. At Bishop Verot, Farmer was a two-time all-area performer for the football team. He also played baseball and was an honor roll student all four years. Also recruited by Illinois State, Army and Valdosta (Ga.) State, Farmer chose Southeast because of its upcoming football program and academics. Although he did not play in the Indians game against Marshall earlier this season, Farmer had an interesting tie to the game as both of his parent's are Marshall alumni. Farmer will play his second game of the season in two weeks when Southeast returns home after an off-week to play Murray State in its annual Homecoming game. Game time is 1:00 p.m. CST and play-by-play can be heard on Southeast's website at www.gosoutheast.com. |
