Four Redhawks Earn All-OVC Accolades

By Tyler Koonce, Sports Information Assistant BRENTWOOD, Tenn. - Four Southeast Missouri State football players were placed on All-Ohio Valley Conference teams that were announced Tuesday. Nick Stauffer and Doug Spada won first team honors, while Walter Peoples was awarded second team and Philip Klaproth received a spot on the All-Newcomer squad. Stauffer set a school-record and finished fourth in the nation with 150 tackles on the season. The senior linebacker made 60 solo tackles and also added 12 tackles for loss (-29 yards), including 2.5 sacks (-17 yards). He also forced three fumbles, recovered two others, broke up four passes and registered a key interception in the comeback victory over No. 19 Tennessee State on Oct. 25. Spada earned first team honors at the punter position for the second consecutive season. He ranked third nationally, averaging 44.74 yards per punt. He had a long of 65 yards and downed 12 punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line. Peoples, in his first full season as a wide receiver, ranked fourth in the OVC in receptions per game, hauling in 65 passes for 903 yards and six touchdowns. He averaged 75.2 receiving yards per game and 13.9 yards per catch. He registered a career-long 49-yard touchdown reception at Jacksonville State on Oct. 4. Klaproth earned a spot on the OVC All-Newcomer team after having a standout freshman season at the linebacker position. He was inserted into the starting lineup in the second game of the season at No. 6 Missouri and went on to finish third on the squad with 76 tackles, including 30 solo stops. He registered two tackles for loss (-2 yards), forced a fumble and broke up four passes. He also added two interceptions and finished second on the team with 61 return yards. Freshman quarterback Matt Scheible was named OVC Newcomer of the Week following Saturday's 33-30 comeback victory at Austin Peay. He went 12-for-24 passing for 195 yards and a career-high three touchdowns. He also led the team with 73 yards rushing on 17 carries and led the offense down the field for the game-winning touchdown scored by running back Timmy Holloman with only 14 seconds left on the clock. |
