McElroy Named To Academic All-Star Team

Cape Girardeau-Senior football player Chuck McElroy of Southeast Missouri State University has been named as one of 31 winners of the Sixth Annual Division I-AA Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star Team.

McElroy , who was a backup tight end and a key special teams player for Southeast, has a 3.818 cumulative grade point average in finance. He is a four-time Southeast Scholar Athlete who attended the 2002 NCAA leadership Conference and served a two-year term as president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee at Southeast.

"Each year we are proud of the young men who have earned this award," said John Johnson, chairman of the selection committee and athletics director at Weber State. "They present the caliber of students and the caliber of athletes found in Division I-AA football."

Southeast coach Tim Billings praised McElroy for his team play and outstanding academic accomplishments. "Chuck was a real inspiration for our football team." Billings said. "He worked extremely hard on the practice field and was a key special teams player who excelled in the classroom and as a leader both on and off the field."
