Southeast Golf Finishes Third at Pizza Hut Classic Team finishes 18 strokes off lead
Cape Girardeau, Mo. (February 26, 2001) - The Southeast Missouri State golf team finished 18 strokes off the lead after two rounds at the Pizza Hut/BellSouth Classic Sunday and Monday in Brandon, Mississippi. Southeast finished third in the tournament behind Nicholls State University and Army. The Indians were in second place after the first day of scoring just four strokes off the lead. They, however, had an off day in a second day of scoring and moved into third place just two strokes behind second place Army. Indian senior Bryan Johnson finished in second place four strokes off the lead. Johnson was in the lead after the first day, two strokes ahead of his closest competitor but shot a 7 over par 79 the second day to fall from leaders' spot. Other notables for the Indians were Matt Hillis who finished tied for 13th, Woody Hill he finished 17th, and Jimmy Blose, and Kent Phillips who finished tied for 19th. Ohio Valley Conference foe Tennessee State University finished fifth in the competition nine strokes behind the Indians. Next up for Southeast will be a trip to Martin, Tenn. to compete in the Tennessee-Martin Invitational. The first-round is set to start on March 3rd and conclude on March 5th. |
