Southeast Takes Second Tri-State Classic.

March 3, 2004

Final Stats

After being rained out of Monday's action at the Tri-State Classic, the Southeast Missouri State golf team took second place out of 15 teams yesterday, finishing just one stroke behind first-place Lipscomb. The Indians shot 292 as a team, tying them with Murray State.

Senior Kent Phillips tied for fourth overall in a field of 81 players as he shot an even par score of 72, just three strokes behind Northern Alabama's James Porter who finished first overall with a score of 69.

Freshmen Mark Schmitz and Zach Decker each finished just one stroke behind Phillips, finishing tied for 13th with a score of 73. Decker took fourth place two weeks ago at the Pizza Hut Classic in Jackson, Miss.

Junior Brian Sheehan shot just two-over par with a 74, finishing in 22nd place. Juniors Brandon Couch and Justin Setser shot 77 and 80, respectively.

Southeast will next be in action March 21 at the University of New Orleans Invitational in New Orleans, La. The Indians will compete that Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the Eastover Country Club.

The following week, March 28-30, Southeast will host its only home tournament of the spring season.
