Southeast Golfers Finish Second At Pickwick
Pickwick Dam, Tenn. (March 5, 2003) - The Southeast Missouri State Golf team finished second at the Tri-State Classic today as they were edged out in the final round by conference foe Murray State University for the team title. After wining by one stroke last week, Southeast lost by just seven this week. Murray used a sparkling final round 282 to overtake the Indians. Southeast shot rounds of 298, 292 and a final round of 296. North Alabama, Western Illinois and Saint Louis rounded out the top five. Kent Phillips finished tied for third place, just three strokes off the lead. After rounds of 75 and 70, Phillips finished up with a one over 73 in the final round to finish in the top three. Northern Alabama's Justin Reagan used a four under second round and a one under final round to finish one under for the tournament and take the title by one stroke over Western Illinois' Sandy McClintock. SLU's Evan Frederick and Belmont's Will Cox finished tied with Phillips for third. Other notables for the Indians included Jimmy Blose at 14th, Woody Hill tied at 15th, Brian Sheehan tied at 31st and Matt Hillis tied at 33rd. Southeast now will be off until March 23 when they will travel to New Orleans to compete in the University of New Orleans Invitational. |
