Martin, Tenn.(March 6, 2002) - After one day of competition at the Tri-State Classic at UT-Martin, Southeast senior Bryan Johnson was in second place, one shot off the lead. Johnson, however, came through strong in the final day as he shot a one-over to finish at even par, enough to capture the title.

Johnson was part of a log jam at the top of the standings, but had a solid day that allowed him to finish one stroke ahead of his closest competitor, Adam Barker of Belmont University. Jason Buffone of Lewis, Kyle Young and Brad Sewell, both of Tech, finished tied for third.

Southeast as a team moved up three spots from the first day, leapfrogging from eighth to fifth. They shot 10 shots better in the final day as they pulled in the best team score of the day at nine over, 299.

Tennessee Tech, the first-round leader, held on tough and beat out Morehead State for the team title by four strokes. Host school UT-Martin finished third.

Other notables for Southeast were Jimmy Blose, tied for 16th at seven-over, Matt Hillis, tied for 51st at 15-over, Woody Hill and Brian Sheehan, tied for 56th at 17-over both.

Southeast takes a week off, then travels to New Orleans on March 17-19 for the Bob Brown Invitational, hosted by the University of New Orleans. They then come home on March 24-25 to play host to the SEMO Fourball.
