Hill Wins Bob Brown Invite, Team Finishes One Stroke Off Lead

Eastover, La. (March 25, 2003)- After leading the Bob Brown Invitational by one stroke over host institution New Orleans, the Southeast Missouri State Indian golf team fell victim to a solid team performance from the Privateers as they shot one over as a team to claim the title by one stroke over the Indians. Senior Woody Hill, who was fourth after the first day, used a two under second round to claim the individual championship. He shot a one under on the first day for a three under in the tournament. Tulane's Chris Wheeler, who shot a five under on the first day, had a horrendous second day as he was three over to finish second with a two under tournament score. L.C. Honroe of Jackson State was third with a one under. Kevin Maxwell of New Orleans, Brent Gallinger of Missouri-Kansas City, and Robert Ritchie of Southern Illinois finished tied for fourth, all at even par. Southeast was followed in the tournament by UMKC in third, while Belmont, Tulane and Tennessee State all finished tied for fourth. Other notables for the Tribe include Jimmy Blose and Brian Sheehan tied for 14th, with a four over 148, Kent Phillips tied for 18th with a five over 149, and Matt Hillis tied for 52nd with a 13 over 157. Southeast will next play host to its own Morton B. Harris Intercollegiate next Sunday and Monday March 31 and April 1st. The tournament will be held all day at Kimberland CC in Cape Girardeau. |
