Southeast Golfers Finish Second at SEMO Fourball

Cape Girardeau, Mo. (April 1, 2003) - The Southeast Missouri State Indian Golfers finished runner-up to the Leathernecks of Western Illinois University today in the final round of the Morton B. Harris Four Ball Tournament at Kimberland CC. Going into the final round of the two-man team tournament, Southeast was facing off with the No. 2 seeded Western Illinois. After all scorecards had been turned in the two teams were tied, but Western took the tournament in a tiebreaker. Southeast's Matt Hillis and Woody Hill were also tied for the top team honors with Missouir-Kansas City's Tony Olson and Andy Hoffman. The two pairs hit the links for three extra holes before Hoffman and Olson won the title. Missouri Kansas City finished third after they defeated Eastern Illinois, and Saint Louis took the fifth place match. Individually, UMKC's Olson took top honors as he finished with the only under par score for the tournament, as he shot a 73, 66 and a 71 for a three-under par. Hillis finished second with a four over 217. Kent Phillips and Woody Hill finished with a seven over 220, while Jim Blose, Justin Setser and Brian Sheean finished with ten and 14 over par scores, respectively. Evan Frederick and John Campbell of Saint Louis finished tied for third at a five over with Western Illinois's Rich Thomas. Kyle Maxwell of Eastern Illinois, Phillips and Hill, as well as Charlie Mahon of UMKC, and Ben Hunter of Western Illinois all finished tied for sixth at seven over. Southeast will next be in action at on April 6th and 7th at the Belmont University Invitational. |
