Southeast Golfers Finish Eighth at Belmont

Franklin, Tenn. (April 8, 2003) - The Southeast Missouri State golf team finished eighth out of 20 teams today at the Belmont Invitational. Individually Jim Blose finished tied for 16th for the Tribe.

Austin Peay won the title in Franklin finishing four strokes up on Jacksonville State. Mercer, Florida Atlantic and Campbell University rounded out the top five schools.

Florida Atlantic's Matt Anderson led all golfers with a seven under 206 for the tournament. Tennessee State's Robert Dinwiddie finished second at six under as Nick Mackay and Matias Anselmo of Jacksonville State, as well as Joel Gibbons of Florida Atlantic rounded out the top five. Mackay and Anselmo finished at five and four under, respectively, while Gibbons was at three under. Four other golfers were at under par for the tournament.

The Indians were led by Blose's four over 217. Woody Hill finished with an eight over 221 tied for 32nd, while Brian Sheehan finished tied for 38th, Matt Hillis was tied for 48th and Kent Phillips was tied for 78th.

Southeast now goes on the road this next week up to St. Louis as they will participate in the Billiken Invitational hosted by Saint Louis University. The first and final rounds will be shot on Monday and Tuesday, April 14 and 15th.
