Redhawks Golf Finishes 9th at OVC Championships

DECATUR, Ala. - (Wednesday, April 20, 2005) The Redhawks golf team ended their season today at the 2005 O'Reilly Ohio Valley Conference Golf Championships at Burningtree Golf Course Wednesday afternoon. The Redhawks shot a 304 in the final round of play to give them a final score of 900 (+36) placing them ninth.

Senior Brandon Couch and sophomore Mark Schmitz were the top Redhawks individual finishers each tying for 28th place with scores of 225 (+9).

Schmitz hot stroke from round two carried over to the final round where he matched par with a 72.

Senior Brian Sheehan finished a stroke behind his teammates with a 226 (+10) for 31st place.

Zack Decker finished 38th with a 230 (+14) and Matt Hillis 41st with a 232 (+16).

Host Samford rallied pass Austin Peay in the final round to win the OVC title. Samford shot nine-over (873) for the tournament.

The Bulldogs' Bradley Farmer took home the individual championship finishing with a 213 (-3).

Hillis was named to the All-OVC First Team for his efforts throughout the season after the completion of play.

The Redhawks golf team will now sit and await its fate in regards to the future of the program.
