Southeast Golf Finishes Three Strokes Off Lead
Cape Girardeau, Mo. (September 10, 2002) - The Southeast Missouri State Golf Team finished just three strokes of the lead after the final round of the 2002 Harris Intercollegiate today as the Panthers of Eastern Illinois took the narrow victory. Southeast was the dominant leader after the first round as they were the only team in the field to have an under par round as a team. However, they had a 10 over second round and a seven over third round to finish the tournament 14 over. Eastern Illinois used strong second and third rounds to overtake first day leader Saint Louis University, and win the tournament by just one stroke. Saint Louis had the top two golfers in the tournament as Evan Frederick and Adam Trower finished one, two. The two were also the first day leaders. Had under par rounds in the first day, but shot two and three over the final day to capture the individual title. Southeast's Woody Hill finished three strokes off the lead as he used a two under final round to tie with Eastern's Dave Rella for third. Southeast's Matt Hillis finished four off the lead and tied for fourth. Other notable scores for Southeast include Jim Blose with a 10 over 220, Kent Phillips with a seven over 217, Brian Sheehan with a 16 over 226, Brandon Couch and Nathan Sprague with a 21 over 231 and Justin Sester with a 22 over 232. Southeast will next compete in the D.A. Weibring Invitational hosted by Illinois State University on September 15-17. |
