Golf in Third after Day-One of SMS Golf Fall Invitational

By: Patrick Clark - SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - (Monday, October 18, 2004) The Southeast Missouri State sits in familiar territory after day-one of the SMS Golf Fall Invitational. That territory being in third place within striking distance of second place and the lead. With three top-three finishes already in the fall season, Southeast will look to make a move in the final round to pick up their first team victory of the fall season. Host school Southwest Missouri State sits in first with a two-round score of 586 (+10). Northern Illinois sits in second with a score of 597 (+21). Southeast is five strokes behind the Huskies with a score of 602 (+26). Bradley is just behind Southeast with a 605 (+29) followed by Murray State's 609 (+33). Senior Matt Hillis sits in fourth place in the individual standings with a one-over par 145. His score of 66 in the opening round of play was the lowest score of the day by any of the participating golfers. Teammate Mark Schmitz is tied for 11th with a score of 150 (+11). Zack Decker sits at 16th place with a 152 (+8). SMS has two golfers occupying the top-two spots of the individual rankings. Austin Hackett leads with a 140 (-4) with teammate Matt Sullivan behind him at 143 (-1). The final round will be start at 8:00 A.M. on Tuesday.
