Golf Finishes Ninth At Pepsi/SMS Invitational Senior Bryan Johnson finishes tied for ninth
Springfield, Mo. (October 30, 2001) - In the midst of some very tough competition, the Southeast Golf team finished the three-round SMS Invitational in ninth place, one stroke ahead of tenth-place Eastern Illinois. Southwest Missouri played their own home course perfectly as they finished first after finishing the first day one-stroke off conference foe and then leader Northern Iowa. SMS, Northern Iowa, and Evansville rounded out the top three in the team competition as David Jenkins of SMS won the individual trophy by shooting a seven-under 209 for the tournament. Jenkins shot a four-under first-round, a three-under second round, and par for the final round. He was followed by Marc Cahalan and Mike Lewis of Northern Iowa and Jason Reddington of Evansville to round out the top three. Senior Bryan Johnson was SEMO's top performer shooting a three-over 219 for the tournament. Johnson had a three-over first round, but got back to par with a three-under second round. He shot a final round three over to finish that way for the tournament. Other performers for the Indians include Brian Sheehan, tied for 32nd, Matt Hillis, tied for 37th, Kent Phillips, tied for 46th, Mark Horn, tied for 49th, Brandon Couch, tied for 51st, and Woody Hill and Jimmy Blose, both tied at 55th. The Indians finish off their fall portion of the schedule next weekend as they travel to Nashville to compete in the Temple Hills Invitational hosted by David Lipscomb University. |
