Golf Sits in 4th After Day One of Billiken Invitational
April 11, 2005 MADISON, Ill. - (Monday, April 11, 2005) The Southeast Missouri State golf team currently sits in 4th place after two rounds of play at the Billiken Invitational held at Gateway National Golf Course in Madison, Illinois on Monday. The tournament features 18 teams including five Ohio Valley Conference teams. The Redhawks two-round score of 576 (+8) trails leader Austin Peay (566/-2), host school Saint Louis (570/+2) and Western Illinois (571/+3). The Redhawks are looking for their first tournament title after finishing in the top-ten in all eight of their tourneys including seven top-five finishes. Individually senior Matt Hillis leads the Redhawks with a score of 139 (-3), placing him one stroke behind the leaders Nick Kwaterski (Western Illinois) and Jeff Stoppel (UMKC). He tied the second-round low score, shooting a 68 at the par 71 course. Hillis is looking for his first individual title of the season after having three top-six finishes. Teammate Mark Schmitz trails Hillis by a stroke with a score of 140 (-2). He also hit a second-round low 68. Zack Decker (148/+6), Brian Sheehan (150/+8) and Brandon Couch (151/+9) round out the Redhawks golfers. Play with resume tomorrow morning with the third and final round of play.
