Redhawks Golf Falls to 8th after Second Round of OVC Championships

DECATUR, Ala. - (Tuesday, April 19, 2005) The Redhawks golf team struggled in the second day of the 2005 O'Reilly Ohio Valley Conference Golf Championships at Burningtree Golf Course Tuesday morning. The Redhawks shot a 304 to put them at 20-over in the Championships tied for eighth place with Tennessee Tech.

Senior Brian Sheehan remained the top individual player for the Redhawks despite struggling. He fell from fourth to 24th place after hitting a 79. After two rounds he is five-over (149).

Zack Decker is one stroke behind Sheehan with a 150 (+6). He too shot a 79 in the second round and is currently tied for 28th place with teammate Brandon Couch who shot a team-low 74 in the second round.

Senior Matt Hillis is tied for 33rd with a 151 (+7) followed by Mark Schmitz who shot a 75 on day two to put him in 38th with a 153 (+9).

Austin Peay moved past Samford for the team lead with a two-day score of 581 (+5). Murray State is in second with a 582 (+6) followed by Samford.

Murray State's Jamie Frazier sits atop the leaderboard with a score of 140 (-4).

The third and final round resumes tomorrow at Burningtree Golf Course with teams teeing off at 8:00 a.m.
