Southeast Golf One Stroke Back After First Day

Cape Girardeau, Mo. (September 9, 2002) - After the first day of competition at the Harris Invitaional, the Southeast Missouri State Golf team is one stroke back of the leader, Saint Louis University, with one round of golf remaining.

After the first round, Southeast was a convincing leader, and the only team to post a below par score for the round. However, after the second round in which the team was ten-over, they moved one shot behind Saint Louis as the Billikens shot a six over for the first round and an even par for the second.

The top five is rounded out by Eastern Illinois who is eight over, Murray State at 15 over, and Tennessee Tech at 17 over.

Saint Louis also has the top two individual golfers in leader Evan Frederick, at six under, and Adam Trower at five under. Southeast's Matt Hillis is third at two under followed by Lewis University's Jason Buffone at even par and four others at one over.

Other notables for semo include Woody Hill at one over, Kent Phillips at four over, Jim Blose at six over, and Brian Sheehan at 12 over. Blose was in second place after a first round three under, but shot nine over in the second round to fall back out of contention.

The tournament will continue tomorrow with one round of 18 holes and conclude sometime around 1 p.m.
