Golf Looks to Improve Upon Seventh Place Best Finish This Weekend at EIU's Ironhorse Invite

Oct. 11, 2003

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - By this time, the Southeast Missouri State men's golf team should be settled in at Eastern Illinois, preparing for this weekend's Ironhorse Classic. With a bye week under their belt, the team is looking to finish better than their seventh place best finish at the Harris Fall Classic, our host event, which took place the first week of the season. The team finished 10th their next tournament, the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate. Then two weeks ago, they finished eighth at Eastern Kentucky's Colonel Classic.

A practice round will be played tomorrow at the school's own Ironhorse golf course, followed by three rounds spread over this Monday and Tuesday. Southeast will field Schmitz, along with Matt Hillis, Brandon Couch, Zack Decker and Brian Sheehan this go around. Justin Setser will round out the Southeast six as an individual performer.

Coach said that there are normally about 18 teams entered into the Ironhorse Invitational. Last year's field included our school, host school Eastern Illinois, Tennessee State and Tennessee-Martin. Those same teams will be included once again in this years' edition of the Invitational.
