Southeast Golf Places 10th at SMS Highland Springs Invitational

Oct. 21, 2003

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - The Southeast golf team moved up one spot from the two rounds played yesterday, finishing 10th overall at the Southwest Missouri State Highland Springs Invitational.

Matt Hillis and Zack Decker had the best finishes for Southeast's team as both golfers tied five other golfers for 35th place, shooting 17 over par. Brandon Couch wasn't far behind Hillis and Decker, shooting 18 over in the tournament.

Oklahoma City University maintained first place overall and host school Southwest moved up one spot to claim second place, but Southeast rival Murray State lost their hold on second, dropping two spots into fourth place. Southern Illinois-Carbondale rounded out the top three.

Nicolas Allain of Oklahoma City was the overall top individual golfer, finishing at three under. Carbondale's Brian Norman was right behind him at two under and Nicholas Schenk of Northern Illinois University was one stroke behind Norman at one under.

Brian Sheehan was 53rd overall. Mark Schmitz took 61st place and Kent Phillips finished up the Invitational in 66th place.

Southeast did finish ahead of Tennessee-Martin's team, the only other team from the OVC at the Invitational.
