Box Score

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Senior center Missy Whitney (Charleston, Mo./Three Rivers CC) posted 18 points to lead three players who scored in double figures as Southeast Missouri State women's basketball opened a three-game Ohio Valley Conference road trip with a 70-54 win over Austin Peay tonight at the Dunn Center. The Redhawks improve their season record to 10-6 (5-2) while the Lady Govs fell to 4-12 (1-6) on the year.

Southeast produced an early 5-0 lead in the game's opening four minutes on a layup from junior guard Sonya Daugherty (St. Louis, Mo./Hancock) and a three-pointer by Whitney. The home team then went on a 10-1 run in a three and a half-minute stretch, including four points by sophomore Janay Armstrong, to claim a 10-6 advantage at the 12:21 mark on a jumper from freshman Darcie Warner. Junior forward Crysta Glenn (San Diego, Calif./Cowley County CC) and Daugherty combined to score 13 points during the final 12 minutes of the half as the Redhawks tallied 19 of the half's final 37 points to enter intermission with a 29-24 advantage.

Southeast continued where it left off at the end of the first stanza with a 27-14 scoring drive in over 12 minutes as Whitney scored 13 of her 15 second-half points to capture a 56-36 advantage at the eight-minute mark. The Lady Govs posted a 7-3 run in a four-plus minute span with Armstrong scoring all of the points to pull within 14 at 59-45 with 3:41 remaining, but a quick 7-0 run by the visitors that included five points from junior guard Tarina Nixon (Gilbert, Ariz./Highland) hiked the lead to 66-45 at the 1:31 mark. Austin Peay got no closer than 16 points the rest of the way.

Nixon finished with 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including 3-of-4 from downtown, with six rebounds for Southeast. Daugherty added 13 points, six caroms, four assists and three steals, while Glenn posted eight points and junior guard Tierra Johnson (Poplar Bluff, Mo./Three Rivers CC) had five points.

Armstrong led all players with a game-high 20 points and nine boards. Thomas contributed nine caroms and eight points, while senior Ashlee McGee added six points, six boards and four assists. Senior Kellea Reeves scored six points on 3-of-3 shooting.

The Redhawks continue their road swing on Thursday, Jan. 17 with an OVC contest at Tennessee State starting at 5:30 p.m.
