The Redhawks posted an early 11-5 lead in the opening four minutes of the first half on a layup from sophomore guard Sonya Daugherty (St. Louis, Mo./Hancock). Daugherty scored nine during the game-opening run and she later increased Southeast's advantage to 15-9 with a jumper at 12:25. The Redhawks then scored 10 of the next 15 points to take a 25-18 lead at 3:11 on a free throw from junior forward Missy Whitney (Charleston, Mo./Three Rivers CC). A quick 10-5 scoring drive helped the Lady Govs cut their deficit to 30-28 entering the halftime break.

Southeast outscored Austin Peay by a 14-7 margin over a span of six-plus minutes to post its biggest lead of the game at 44-33 on a Lovelady jumper. The Lady Govs came back with an 8-0 run, including four points from junior Ashlee McGee, to slice their deficit to 44-41 at the 9:22 mark. After senior center Lachelle Lyles (Chicago, Ill./Shelton State CC) posted a fast break layup off a steal with 5:04 remaming to put the home team ahead 52-45, Austin Peay tallied six of the next eight points to close within three at 54-51 at the 2:57 mark. Lovelady brought the lead back to 56-51 with a jumper just 22 seconds later before senior Alicia Watson scored three points over the next minute and a half that sliced the Lady Govs' deficit to 56-54 with 48 seconds left in the game. After being fouled with 13 seconds left, Lyles split a pair of free throws and grabbed her own miss on the second shot before splitting the final two free throws at the 11 second mark for the win.

Daugherty finished the game with 16 points, two rebounds and two steals for Southeast, while Lyles nearly posted a double-double with nine points and a game-high 19 rebounds. Whitney contributed seven points and eight rebounds for the Redhawks.
