Women's Basketball Defeats Auburn-Montgomery, 63-41

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Senior center Missy Whitney (Charleston, Mo./Three Rivers CC) and junior guard Sonya Daugherty (St. Louis, Mo./Hancock) each scored in double figures as Southeast Missouri State women's basketball posted a 63-41 victory over Auburn-Montgomery in an exhibition contest tonight at the Show Me Center.

Whitney produced 11 points with five rebounds, two assists and two steals for Southeast, while Daugherty added 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field. Junior guard Tierra Johnson (Poplar Bluff, Mo./Three Rivers CC) contributed nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from three-point range and junior forward Rachel Blunt (Dexter, Mo./Dexter) recorded eight points.

The Redhawks connected on 52 percent of their shots in the first half while forcing AUM to shoot 15 percent on the floor en route to a 35-15 halftime lead. Southeast held the double-digit advantage in the second half despite outscoring the Lady Senators by a slim 28-26 margin.

Junior Makeba Thomas scored a game-high 15 points to lead Auburn-Montgomery, while fellow junior Destiny Dulin snagged top game honors with nine rebounds.

Southeast opens the 2007-08 season at the Show Me Center on Nov. 10 against Tulsa with a start time of 7:30 p.m.
