CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri State Otahkian basketball team closed the exhibition portion of its schedule with a 86-71 victory over former Division II rival SIU-Edwardsville on Friday night in front of 300 fans at the Show Me Center.

Junior preseason All-OVC selection Lori Chase scored a team-high 17 points for Southeast and grabbed six rebounds. Sophomore Tisa Thomas and senior Veronica Benson added 12 apiece. Thomas also added a team-high eight rebounds.

SIUE was lead by Ruth Kipping, a transfer from the University of Michigan. Kipping scored a game-high 29 points on 11-17 shooting and was a perfect 7-7 from the line in 36 minutes of play.

The Southeast defense limited SIUE to 1-11 shooting from behind the line. The Otahks only managed to hit 3-11 from long range, with two of those coming from junior Kristy Roherty.

Southeast will open the season next Friday in Edinburg, Texas at the Texas Pan Am Classic. Southeast will square off with Montana at 5:00 p.m.
