Honolulu, HI. - (Thursday, December 9, 2004) The Southeast Missouri State women's basketball team opened the Waikiki Beach Marriott Invitational with a less than desirable outcome in losing to host Hawai'i, 79-69 in the Stan Sheriff Center Thursday night. The Rainbow Wahine used some of Southeast's own medicine in the victory, forcing turnovers and using timely three-point shooting.

The Wahine (2-2) used 13 Southeast (4-2) first half turnovers to build a five-point halftime lead, a lead that they would not relinquish the rest of the way. The Wahine scored 17 points off Southeast miscues in the first half.

The first half featured two lead changes and five ties. Hawai'i took a 16-10 lead at 11:42, but Southeast countered with a 19-7 run highlighted by a Tatiana Conceicao (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Western Nebraska CC) jumper to give Southeast their largest lead of the game at six points.

Hawai'i answered with a 10-2 run in the final four minutes of the first to regain the lead 36-31 heading into the lockerooms.

Conceicao as usual had another huge first half as she had 12 points.

However the rest of the team had trouble shooting and holding on to the ball. Southeast shot 37.9-percent including 11.1-percent (1-9) from three-point range and committed 13 turnovers.

The Wahine's three-point shooting was key for them in the first half as they made 4-9.

Southeast attempted a comeback in the second half but could only manage to tie the Wahine at 41 on a Simone Jackson (Kingston, Jamaica/Southeastern Illinois CC) jumper at the 14:58 mark.

Hawai'i cruised to the ten-point victory 79-69.

Conceicao finished with a team-high 22 points, her fourth 20-point game of the season. She was 8-14 from the field and 6-7 from the charity stripe.

Jackson was a perfect 7-7 from the field in scoring a career-high 16 points. She also had a game-high nine rebounds.

Southeast shot 40-percent in the game and shot only 16.7-percent (3-18) from three-point range.

Hawai'i shot 43.5-percent from the field including 50-percent (7-14) from behind the arc.

Four Wahine finished in double-figures led by Janevia Taylors' career-high and game-high 23 points.

Southeast takes on Brigham Young University in their final game of the Invitational Friday night at 7:00 p.m. Hawaii time (11:00 p.m. CST). The game will be broadcasted live on C-106 and audio-streamed on GoSoutheast.com.
