Southeast Missouri State Otahkians (9-6, 2-3) About Southeast: Southeast won a must-win game on Monday night, overcoming a nine-point first-half defecit to upend Tennessee State 77-53. A Lori Chase five-point spurt in the final 19 seconds of the first half sparked the Southeast rally. The Otahkians also turned up the defensive pressure in the second half, limiting TSU to only 18 points after the break. The win snapped a three-game home losing streak and put Southeast back into a position to contend for a conference title. The road does not get any easier for the Otahks in the next several weeks, however, as tonight's game marks the first of six road game amongst Southeast's next eight games. Six of those game are conference road contests which will go a long way to determine what seed Southeast will be in the OVC Tournament. Tennessee-Martin enters Thursday's contest coming off a disappointing loss to Tennessee State this past weekend. The loss was disappointing considering the Skyhawks went to Clarksville earlier in the week and upset Austin Peay. In the APSU game, senior guard Kelly Pendleton scored 36 points for UTM. She leads all Martin scorers with a 12.8 points per game average. For Southeast, senior center Pam Iversen is only 20 points shy of becoming the 12th Otahkian to score 1,000 points in a career. If she does not accomplish the feat against Martin she is almost assured to do so Saturday night against Murray State. Iversen is also quickly climbing the Southeast career rebounding and block lists, and should move into 7th place on the rebounding charts tonight. She needs only six rebounds to do so. |
