Women's Hoops Play Host To Rival Murray State

Cape Girardeau, Mo. (January 17, 2003) - The Southeast Missouri State Otahkian Basketball team will get back in action this Saturday as they play host to the Lady Racers of Murray State at 5:30 p.m. in the Show Me Center. Southeast is 8-5 overall and 2-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference. They are coming off a split in the first road weekend of the conference season as they defeated Morehead State 83-63, but fell to Eastern Kentucky 88-77. They have wins over Morehead State, Eastern Illinois, Gardner-Webb, Lipscomb, Samford and Oakland City, but have lost to SMS, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Indiana State, Oklahoma, and Eastern Kentucky. The Otahkians are being led by junior guard Kenja White's 14.4 points per game. White is second on the team in three-point percentage with a 34 percent average. Senior forward Lori Chase is second in scoring with a 13.7 mark and leads the team in rebounding and three point shooting with 5.6 rebounds per game and 39 percent from behind the arc. Junior forward Carina Souza is third in scoring with a 11.9 per game average, as she, White, and Chase are the only Otahks to start every single game this season. Junior guard Yashika Sidbury is fourth in scoring with 9.4 points per game and continues to lead the team in free-throw shooting averaging 90 percent from the line. She ranks among the league leaders in that category, as well. Murray State is 4-9 on the season and 0-2 in the OVC. They have wins over IUPUI, Butler, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, and IPFW. They have lost to North Carolina - Charlotte, San Diego State, Jackson State, Western Kentucky, Arkansas-Little Rock, Troy State, Chicago State, Austin Peay and Tennessee Tech. The Lady Racers are led by senior forward Beth Schnakenberg. The 6'1 post player is averaging 15.8 points per game while pulling down 6.4 rebounds per contest. She has started all 13 games and is shooting 42 percent from the field, while hitting 78 percent of her free-throws. Freshman center Lori Trumblee is second in scoring with a 13.4 per game average and leads the team in rebounding with 6.9 boards per game. She shoots 81 percent from the free throw line and 51 percent from the field. After this game, Southeast will play host to Tennessee-Martin on Monday night at the Show Me Center.
