Tennessee Tech's Women's Basketball Coach Suspended for Southeast Match-Up

Jan. 20, 2004

Brentwood, Tenn. - Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner Dr. Jon A. Steinbrecher has announced the suspension of Tennessee Tech head women's basketball coach Bill Worrell as a result of his actions during a January 17 contest against Eastern Kentucky. Worrell received two technicals during the course of the game, and per NCAA policy, was ejected from the contest.

"Coach Worrell's actions during the Eastern Kentucky contest ran contrary to the principles of the OVC sportsmanship policy," stated Steinbrecher, "and as a result, he has been suspended for one game."

Conference bylaws mandate no less than a one-game suspension for any coach, student-athlete or athletics staff member who is ejected from a Conference contest.

Worrell will sit out for the Southeast vs. Tennessee Tech contest that is scheduled for this, Thurs., January 22, in Cookeville, Tenn. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. After this contest, the Otahkians will continue on the road to face Austin Peay in Clarksville, Tenn. Jan. 24 at 5:30 p.m.
