Sidbury Named OVC Newcomer of the Week

Brentwood, Tenn. (January 21, 2003) - Junior forward Yashika Sidbury has been named the Ohio Valley Conference's Newcomer of the Week for the week of January 21 as released today by the league office in Brentwood.

Sidbury wins her second award of the season and is the third Otahkian to win the award in a row with Kenja White winning the past two weeks. Southeast has won the award six out of the seven times it has been given this season.

Sidbury helped the Otahks to a 2-0 record this week and moved them into third place in the conference. She shot lights-out this week as she averaged a 73.3 field shooting percentage, including a 7-of-10 effort from 3-point range. Sidbury opened with 13 points and five rebounds against Murray State, then fell one shy of the school record for treys with five in a 21-point, nine-board effort versus Tennessee-Martin. She also converted 5-of-6 foul attempts.

On the season, Sidbury is averaging 10.4 points and is shooting 90 percent from the free-throw line. The Otahkians moved their record this week to 10-5 overall and 4-1 in the OVC. They are in action this weekend as they travel to Clarksville, Tenn. to take on the Lady Govs of Austin Peay. Tip off for Saturday is slated for 5 p.m.
