Sonya Daugherty Captures OVC Co-Player of the Week Honors

Jan. 22, 2007

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State sophomore guard Sonya Daugherty (St. Louis, Mo./Hancock) has been selected with Murray State senior Joi Scott as Ohio Valley Conference Co-Players of the Week, the conference announced this afternoon. This is Daugherty's first career weekly honor and she is the fifth Redhawk to be recognized by the OVC this season.

The 5-7 Daugherty posted averages of 21.5 points, 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals per game in helping Southeast tally a 2-0 record last weekend at the Show Me Center. She opened the week with 26 points and four steals, both career highs, in a 64-46 Redhawk win over Tennessee State on Jan. 18. Daugherty then posted a game-high 17 points and a career-best six assists a couple of days later against Tennessee Tech.

She is currently third on the team in scoring at 11.1 points a game average and ranks fourth in the OVC with 15.2 points per game against conference opponents.

Southeast travels to Morehead, Ky., this Wednesday afternoon for an OVC contest against Morehead State with a 4:15 p.m., start time.
