Cape Girardeau, Mo. (Feb. 4, 2004)- The Otahkians (9-10, 4-4 OVC) are excited to be at home in the Show Me Center this week as they host "rivals week" to kick-off the second half of OVC competition. Southeast hosts Tennessee-Martin (7-11, 4-4 OVC) Thursday February 5, 2004 at 5:00 p.m. and Murray State (8-11, 4-4 OVC) this Saturday, February 7, 2004 at 5:00 p.m. These are huge games for the Otahkians since all three teams currently have a 4-4 record in OVC competition.

Scouting Southeast...The Otahkians have regained their momentum as they closed on the road with a win, dealing Samford a 71-43 blow. The squad opened the game with a 13-3 run, Samford managed to cut the lead to eight, but Southeast used a 12-0 run to take the 36-13 advantage at the break. Samford opened the second period with a 10-0 run to cut the margin to 13, but Southeast battled back to close with a 28-point advantage.

Kenja White led the squad with 18 points on a perfect shooting outing. She shot 4-for-4 from the floor, including 1-for-1 from long range, and 9-for-9 from the charity stripe. White also picked-off a career-best six steals. Sami Jo Cotton added 15 and Chandra Brown scored 12.
 

 

White is leading the team in scoring on the season, averaging 11.4 points per game. Cotton and Brown are following closely behind netting 10.5 and 10.1 points per game respectively. On the glass Brown leads the way averaging 6.8 boards per game, while Costello is the team's top helper with 4.4 assists per game.

As a squad, Southeast leads the conference in steals averaging 10.2 per game and rank second in the league and 17th in the nation with 7.0 three-pointers per game.

Scouting Tennessee Martin...The Skyhawks won their second straight game as they won a 66-55 decision over Eastern Kentucky last Saturday. They cruised to a 28-15 lead by halftime and led by as much as 18 points in the second half.

Senior forward Julie Young led UTM with 23 points hitting 6-of-10 from the field and 11-of-13 from the line. Sophomore guard Torre Thomas scored a career-high 18 points, while freshman forward Andreika Jackson rounded out the Skyhawk double-digit scorers with 14 points and seven boards.

Young leads the squad on the season netting an average of 13.2 points per game. Jackson is the squad's number two scorer with 9.4 points per game and leads the team with 7.0 rebounds per game. Junior guard Danielle Page leads the squad in assists, averaging 3.3 assists per game.
