Southeast Missouri State Otahkians (12-9, 4-6)
vs. Morehead State Lady Eagles (15-5, 5-4)
Game 22 * February 7, 2002 * 4:30 p.m. CT
Ellis T. Johnson Arena (6,500) * Morehead, Ky.

About Southeast: Southeast enters Thursday's game in a must-win mode, if they have aspirations of hosting a first-round OVC Tournament game at the Show Me Center. Currently the Otahkians sit in fifth place, trailing Morehead State by a game and a half.

Morehead defeated Southeast 79-70 in the season's earlier meeting an a sweep over Southeast would put the Lady Eagles in the driver's seat for a home tournament game.

The Lady Eagles enter the game having slipped to fourth place by losing to Austin Peay 89-61 in Clarksville on Monday and snapping their three-game conference winning streak.

Southeast is in the middle of its second three-game losing streak in the past month. The Otahks dropped a heartbreaker to Austin Peay a week and a half ago, then lost a double-overtime heartbreaker to Tennessee State the next time out. In their last game, Southeast fell to a better Tennessee Tech squad, who sat atop the OVC standings until losing to EKU on Monday night.

Senior guard Veronica Benson had a fabulous week that included scoring a career-high 31 points against TSU on Thursday. Benson followed that up with 18 points at Tech. She currently leads the team in scoring in conference-only games, averaging 17.1 per OVC contest.

Junior forward Lori Chase is closing in on a milestone, as she needs only 29 points to become the 13th Otahkian to score 1,000 points in a career. Senior center Pam Iversen became the 12th Otahkian to accomplish that feat earlier this year, doing so against Murray State on January 19.
