Southeast Missouri State Otahkians (13-11, 5-8) About Southeast: The Southeast Missouri State Otahkians snapped a five-game losing streak and were victorious in a must-win game over the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks on Thursday. Despite shooting a season-low 35.8% from the field, the Otahkian defense was superb, limiting UTM to only 29.8% from the field and held star guard Kelly Pendleton to seven points. Southeast got 20 points from junior Lori Chase who increased her career total to 1,027 points and move into 12th place on the SEMO all-time scoring list. She needs only three points to move into 11th place. Senior center Pam Iversen recorded four steals to become only the 2nd OVC player and 28th Division I player ever to record at least 1,000 points, 700 rebounds, 150 assists, 100 steals and 100 blocks in a career. Murray State enters Saturday's contest with a 3-3 mark in its last six conference games. The Lady Racers loss to Eastern Illinois dropped them out of a two-way tie for fifth place in the OVC and into a three-way tie with UT-Martin and Southeast. The Otahkians hold the upper-hand in the three-way tie, owning two victories over UTM and one over Murray State. Murray is led by senior forward Susan Tackett who averages 12.6 points per game. Murray likes to shoot the three-point shot, as they have attempted 453 three-pointers in 2001-02, almost 200 more than the Otahkians. In the previous meeting this season, Southeast was able to overcome an early first-half defecit and the Otahks cruised to a 71-55 victory at the Regional Special Events Center. The win was the first for Southeast is four tries at the RSEC. Southeast will conclude its three-game homestand on Monday night, when they host Eastern Illinois on Ed Arnzen Appreciation Night. Monday will also be senior night, as Southeast seniors Cindy Bates, Veronica Benson and Pam Iversen play their last game at the Show Me Center. The broadcast can be heard on KAPE 1550-AM in Cape Girardeau with Jeff Brightwell providing the play-by-play. Fans outside the Cape area can access the Murray State broadcast through their athletic website at GoRacers.com. |
