Missy Whitney Named OVC Newcomer of the Week For Sixth Time

Feb. 19, 2007

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State junior forward/center Missy Whitney (Charleston, Mo./Three Rivers CC) has claimed Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week honors for the sixth time this season, the conference announced in a press release this afternoon.

The 6-2 Whitney averaged 14 points and 7.5 rebounds per game last week in helping the Redhawks post a 2-0 record. She opened the week with 14 points, seven rebounds and a career-best six blocked shots at Eastern Illinois on Valentine's Day. Her six blocks equaled the school's single-game record that was last set by Pam Iversen during the 1998-99 season. Three days later, she paced Southeast with 14 points and eight rebounds in their home finale over Tennessee-Martin.

Whitney currently leads the Redhawks with 13.8 points and 1.4 blocks per game.

The Redhawks (19-7, 14-4 OVC) open a two-game road swing in Alabama this week to end the regular season, beginning this Thursday night (Feb. 22) at Samford with the tip-off at 5 p.m.
