Game Notes in PDF Format
Cape Girardeau, Mo. (February 21, 2003) - The Southeast Missouri State Otahkian basketball team will play host to the OVC-leading Lady Govs of Austin Peay Saturday night at the Show Me Center. The game will be senior night and the team will honor LaShelle Porter and Lori Chase before the game. Southeast is coming off a heartbreaking last second loss to the Skyhawks of Tennessee-Martin. Southeast had the ball in their own end with 30 seconds left, but threw it away and Martin's Amy Watson found her way to the free-throw line to make two game-winning shots. Southeast got the ball back with six seconds left, but a short jumper from Sarah Costello didn't go. The Otahks are being led by senior forward Lori Chase. She is first in scoring and rebounds with 13.4 and 6.0 per game marks. She is second in three-point percentage with her 34 percent mark. Junior guard Kenja White's 13.3 points per game is second on the team. She is third on the team in three-point percentage with a 29 percent average. Junior forward Carina Souza is fourth in scoring with a 11.8 per game average, as she, White, and Chase are the only Otahks to start every single game this season. Junior guard Yashika Sidbury is fourth in scoring with 10.9 points per game and continues to lead the team in free-throw shooting averaging 86 percent from the line and is first in three-point shooting with a 38 percent mark. Austin Peay leads the series 14-9 and has won the last two meetings in a row. They split the series last season with the road team winning each game. Austin Peay is 20-3 and the hottest team in the conference. They have won 15 games in a row and are an impressive 12-0 in the conference. They have wins over Evansville, Ohio, UMKC, Missouri, Morris Brown, UAB, Middle Tennessee, Murray State, Tennessee-Martin, Tennessee Tech, Tennessee State, Southeast Missouri, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, Morehead State, and Lipscomb. They have lost to only Memphis, Vanderbilt, and Ohio State. The Lady Govs are the OVC's best team this season as they are being led by Player of the Year candidate, Brooke Armistead. Armistead is averaging 17.2 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. She is shooting 44 percent from the field and 85 percent from the free-throw line. Gerlonda Hardin is one of two strong forces in the middle for Peay. She, along with freshman Ashley Haynes is averaging 14.4 and 9.7 points, respectively.
