Redhawks Face Golden Eaglettes in OVC Semifinal

The Redhawks advanced to their third-straight semifinal game in the Ohio Valley Conference Women's Championship Tournament. They defeated No. 7 seed 47-45 in a nailbiter in the opening round of the OVC Tourney on Tuesday at the Show Me Center.

The win extended the Redhawks home-winning streak against OVC opponents to 17-straight victories.

Southeast, the No. 2 seed will play No. 3 Tennessee Tech (21-7, 13-3 OVC) in the semifinal round of the OVC Championship Tournament on Friday in the Gaylord Entertainment Center. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. The game can be heard live on C-106 FM or on www.gosoutheast.com.

Tennesee Tech leads the all-time series against the Redhawks 21-9. Redhawks Head Coach B.J. Smith is 1-0 vs the Golden Eaglettes in the OVC Tournament. In the 2003 Semifinal game the Redhawks prevailed, 78-65.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLETTES

No. 3 seed Tennessee Tech defeated No. 6 seed Tennessee-Martin, 70-51 at home in the opening round of the OVC Tournament on Tuesday.

First Team All-OVC selection Emily Christian scored a game-high 32 points vs the Skyhawks as the Golden Eaglettes shot 51-percent from the field in the game.

Christian is the OVC's leading scorer at 19.6 ppg and ranks nationally in that statistic. She also leads the team in rebounding. Forward Kendall Cavin is an All-OVC Second Team selection. She averages 13.1 ppg and 3.8 rpg.

For the Golden Eaglettes it is their 23rd time in their 24-year history they have reached the OVC semifinals.

The two teams split their two meetings this season with each team winning on their homecourt. The Redhawks won their most recent contest, 62-45. Tatiana Conceicao recorded a game-high 24 points and Chandra Brown had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Tech and Southeast have met four times in the OVC Tournament with Tech leading owning a 3-1 edge, including a 2-1 lead in semifinals game.
