Junior college transfer, Brown brings home final OVC Newcomer of the Week honor of the season

March 1, 2004

Brentwood, Tenn. - As announced by the league office today, junior center Chandra Brown, was named the OVC Newcomer of the Week for the week of March 1for the second week running. Brown receives the honor for the fourth time this season after averaging 11 points, 7.5 rebounds, three assists and 1.5 steals per contest during last weeks two-game conference span. She brings the award home to Southeast for the fifth straight week. For the second straight season, Southeast is proving the award in Cape Girardeau, winning it 18-of-24 times award over its tenure.

Last Monday, March 1, this 6'3" center from Louisville, Ky., netted 12 points against Morehead State, while shooting 5-of-8 from the field and 2-of-2 from the line. Brown also recorded two blocks and one steal. Against Tennessee-Martin, Brown netted ten points and brought down four rebounds and two blocks in just 16 minutes of play. Brown also shot a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.

Transferring to Southeast this season from Southeastern Illinois Community College, Brown has made an immediate impact on the squad and in the conference. Last season the Otahkian squad averaged just one block per game combined, but Brown has come in averaging nearly one block per outing herself, ranking sixth in the OVC. She provides a strong presence in the lane leading Southeast in boards, bringing down 6.4 per game, good for ninth in the league-sixth in defensive rebounds alone. Brown has shown excellent shooting accuracy, leading the team with a .500 percentage from the floor, while netting 10.3 points per game.

Brown and the Otahks (16-12,10-6 OVC) will return to action Friday , March 5, against Austin Peay. Tip-off is set for noon in Nashville, Tennessee for the OVC semifinals.
