Otahkian Basketball Signs Junior College Transfer

Aug. 14, 2003

Cape Girardeau, Mo - Southeast Missouri State women's basketball coach B.J. Smith has announced the signing of Melissa Anthony, a 6-2 post from Dodge City Community College.

As a freshman last year at Dodge City Anthony played extremely well in the post, helping the team tie the school record for the most wins in a season with a 22-10 record, before a season-ending injury.

Originally from Coppell High School in Texas, she was named the tournament MVP at the Plano Tournament. She was an all-district selection in 2002 as she helped lead the team to district titles in 2001 and 2002.

"We are excited to sign a player of her quality this late in the summer," Smith said. " She should really help us in the post game."

She is a welcome addition and will add to the depth of the already talented Southeast backcourt. Southeast is coming off their best season ever as a Division I program. The Otahks will kick-off the regular season November 14 when they travel to Salt Lake City to take on the University of Utah in the first round of the Women's Pre-Season NIT Tournament.
