Southeast Hosts Basketball Coaches' Clinic

Sept. 9, 2005

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (Friday, September 9, 2005) The Southeast Missouri State Women's Basketball team announced today that they will be hosting a coaches' clinic on Saturday, October 15, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The clinic will feature four coaches and an athletic trainer, all of whom will present information on different aspects of the game of basketball.

The day will begin with a session on "Last Second Shots," which will be lead by Southeast Missouri State head men's basketball coach, Gary Garner. That will be followed by a session on "Half Court Sets vs. Zone and Man," taught by Greg Franklin, head women's coach at Southeastern Illinois College. Scott Givens, manager of Main Street Fitness Center in Jackson, will present a session on "Sports Enhancement Programs" and Southeast Missouri State head women's coach B.J. Smith will present a session on "Out-of-Bounds Plays."

Concluding the clinic will be featured guest speaker Dan Hughes. Hughes, the head coach for the WNBA San Antonio Stars, has over 28 years of experience at the collegiate and professional levels. In 2001, Hughes was named WNBA coach of the year and is the all-time winningest coach for the Cleveland Rockers. "We feel very fortunate to have Coach Hughes at our event", said head coach B.J. Smith. "This is a great opportunity for coaches from around the area to learn from some of the best."

The clinic will be held at the Student Recreation Center located behind the Show Me Cener, and the cost of the clinic is $50.00 per coach. The clinic will also feature a skills workout by the Southeast Missouri State Women's Basketball team with lunch provided.
