Women's Basketball Hits the Court for Home Exhibition
Nov. 8, 2009
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (Sunday, November 8, 2009) The Redhawks women's basketball team will give a sneak peak of their new-look 2009-2010 squad as they host Christian Brothers University at the Show Me Center. Tip-off is set for Monday at 7:00 p.m. This will be the Redhawks lone exhibition game before opening the regular season this Friday, Nov. 13 against the University of Missouri-St. Louis at the Show Me Center. The Redhawks return just four letterwinners including two starters from last year's team that went 15-15 and finished tied for fifth in the Ohio Valley Conference standings. To offset the lost of last year's starters and veterans Head Coach John Ishee brought in the largest freshmam recruiting class in program history. The nine-player class is Coach Ishee's second-straight top-100 recruiting class and they are expected to help replace 77-percent of the team's scoring and 78-percent of the team's rebounding lost from last year's team. SCOUTING THE LADY BUCS The NCAA D-II member Lady Bucs, from Memphis, Tenn. have already played two exhibition games including a 84-22 loss to Ole Miss last Thursday. Freshman Jessica Green led the Lady Bucs in scoring with six points. Green is a prep teammate of Redhawks freshman guard Monica Miller at Lausanne Prep last season. Prior to the Ole Miss game the Lady Bucs fell to Arkansas State 95-49 in their first exhibition game of the season. Sheena DeBose led the Lady Bucs with 12 points and nine rebounds. Last season the Lady Bucs went 11-16 including a 4-10 record in the Gulf South Conference. Senior guard Tameka Wooten is the team's leading retruning scorer at 8.6 ppg. DeBose is the team's leading returning rebounder at 4.9 per game. Scott Groninger begins his sixth season at the helm of the Lady Bucs program. The Redhawks have played the Lady Bucs in the regular season 11 times. The Lady Bucs lead the all-time series 6-5. The last time the two team's played each other was in 2005 a 85-41 exhibition win by the Redhawks. The Redhawks are 2-0 against the Lady Bucs in exhibition games. |
