Coach Smith Inks Early Signing Period Recruit
Nov. 12, 2003 Cape Girardeau, Mo. - Head women's basketball coach B.J. Smith announced the signing of junior college transfer, Tatiana Conceicso today. Smith credits his assistant Rick Karr with working hard to sign Conceicso. Conceicso, a sophomore, from Santo Andre, Brazil currently plays for Western Nebraska Community College under the direction of coach Dave Harnish. Last season this 6-2 standout averaged 18 points per game, as she helped lead her team to a 34-3 overall record and a 27 game winning streak. The squad won the Region IX championship and fell one game short of the national title, as they were the 2003 NJCAA National Championship runner-up. During the NJCAA national tournament, she averaged 25 points per game and was named to the all-tournament team. Her outstanding playing ability has been noticed, as she is an All-America candidate for this season. Coach Smith is excited about her coming into the program at Southeast, as she will step right into the wing or small forward position.
"Conceicso is another impact player who will really help get us to the next level. She is 6'2 and has the tools to score from both inside and outside," said Smith. "She will be able to come in and make a huge impact right away as she has the ability to compete with players on the top level."
