Whitney Captures OVC Player of the Week Honors

Nov. 12, 2007

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State senior Missy Whitney (Charleston, Mo./Three Rivers CC) named the first Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for the 2007-08 women's basketball season, the conference announced this afternoon.

Whitney, a 6-2 forward/center, was honored after posting 28 points on 11-of-14 shooting, including 2-of-3 from three-point range, in Southeast's 67-45 win over Tulsa at the Show Me Center on Nov. 10. It was the Redhawks' first season-opening win at home since the 2002-03 season. Whitney also went 4-of-4 from the free-throw line and collected four rebounds against the Golden Hurricane.

Prior to the season, Whitney was named Preseason OVC Player of the Year after averaging 13.2 points, 7.8 boards and 1.4 blocks per game last season en route to capturing Second Team All-OVC and OVC All-Newcomer honors.

The Redhawks are back in action tomorrow night at the SMC when they host NCAA Division II foe Henderson State for a non-conference battle with a start time of 7:30 p.m.
