Women's Basketball Adds All-Stater Brooke Taylor

Nov. 13, 2009

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (Friday, November 13, 2009) – Redhawks women’s basketball coach John Ishee announced the signing of Missouri prep star Brooke Taylor to a National Letter of Intent for the 2010-2011 season. Taylor, from Bismarck, is a three-time All-State selection.

Last season the 6-foot-1 Taylor was amongst the state leaders in scoring as she averaged 32.4 points per game finishing with 875 points in 27 games at forward for the Indians and head coach Julie Ward. She also averaged 13.6 rebounds, 4.0 steals, 1.5 blocks and 4.4 assists per game on her way to her third-straight All-State honor. Her team was one of the top teams in the state, making it to the sectional rounds before being upset. Taylor scored 40 points in the 74-70 loss.

She shot 50-percent from the field including 58-percent from three-point range. She also shot 80-percent from the free throw line. She was a Missouri Basketball Coaches Association All-State selection for the third-straight season as well as garnering Sports Writer First Team All-State honors and Maxpreps Second Team All-State accolades.

As a sophomore she averaged 24.6 ppg and 13.1 rpg and was named MBCA All-State and Sports Writer First Team All-State as well as garnering All-Conference, All-District and All-Region honors. As a freshman starter she averaged 17.9 ppg and averaged 11.2 boards per game. She also averaged 3.68 blocks per game enroute to All-Conference, All-District, All-Region and honorable mention All-State honors.

For her career she has averaged 25.1 ppg, 12.7 rpg, 3.5 assists, 2.4 blocks and 3.9 steals per game. She holds the school single game record for points in a game with 49 and needs just 188 points to break the school’s career scoring mark. She currently has scored 1.912 points scored in 76 career games.

Taylor is also an All-State volleyball player for the Indians garnering first team honors as a junior and senior as well as honorable mention accolades as a sophomore.

She is a member of the school’s honor roll and was named team captain in both basketball and volleyball.

“We are very excited to sign Brooke,” said Coach Ishee. “I feel like she is one of the top ten players in the state. She can score from the outside and she is really explosive around the basket. She’s just a really good athlete and a very good all-around player.”
