Women's Basketball Inks Three Players For 2008-09 Season

Nov. 14, 2007

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State women's basketball head coach John Ishee has announced today the signings of Bianca Beck (St. Louis, Mo.), Trevonna Cannon (Paramount, Calif.) and Amber Holmes (San Antonio, Texas) to National Letters of Intent for the 2008-09 season.

A 5-7 point guard, Beck currently plays for St. Louis powerhouse Incarnate Word Academy and is coached by Dan Rolfes. She helped Incarnate Word capture the 2005-06 Missouri Class 5 state championship as a sophomore and earned Street and Smith's All-America Honorable Mention accolades. This season, Beck was named a Player to Watch by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

"We are ecstatic to have a point guard of Bianca's status, ability and work ethic. She is a great kid, good student and a player that knows how to win and expects to win," Ishee said. "She plays in one of Missouri's premier high school programs at Incarnate Word for one of the state's top and most demanding coaches in Dan Rolfes. She's a winner period."

Cannon, a 6-1 post player, plays junior college ball at State Fair Community College in Sedalia, Mo., for coach Darren Pannier. Last season, she averaged 10 points and 11 rebounds in addition to connecting on 51 percent of her shots from the field en route to earning Second Team All-Region 16 honors. She prepped at Millikan High School in Long Beach, Calif.

"Tre is the most experienced of our three signees. She has a great work ethic and can score inside. She is a very efficient player and will only get better, stated Ishee. "I have to applaud Chris Harris and Angie Moore with the time that they put into this recruiting class."

Holmes is currently in her senior season at Cornerstone Christian High School out of San Antonio, Texas. The 6-2 post player posted averages of 12 points and eight caroms as a junior last year for Cornerstone and is the daughter of former Nebraska football player Daryl Holmes, who played with Southeast head football coach Tony Samuel in the late 70's.

"Amber is a quality young person with the size and frame that we need," added Ishee. "She comes from a very athletic family and she wants to become a player. I really believe her best basketball is ahead of her."
